Research Interests

Mr. Power is primarily interested in the indigenous Atlantic world. His current research examines the constructed nature of sacred and ritual objects. Certain objects, such as wampum, adopt new roles as they find their way into different communities. While the ideas that attach themselves to these items are socially constructed, there is a sense that the items themselves exert influence and serve as an agent of change to the cultures that utilize them.
