Q&A with Michaela

  • What is your favorite class and why?
    • My favorite class I’ve had at WVU so far was West Virginia History with Dr. Gorby, I think. It was just such a surprisingly interesting class that I didn’t think I was going to enjoy. Dr Gorby got me interested in the state’s history and created a very welcoming environment within the classroom.
  • What advice would you give your freshman self?
    • Do what makes you happy, don’t focus so much on the stress. Having fun once in a while will not make you fail, it’s okay to take breaks and enjoy yourself.
  • Who helped you succeed?
    • My family, who have encouraged me throughout my schooling and into college. They’re the reason I’m here and why I went into this major even when other people discouraged me.
  • What are your favorite things about being in this major?
    • One of my favorite things about this major, especially as someone who switched in, is how friendly everyone is. Not just my fellow students but also the professors I’ve had. The people in this department are so helpful and willing to do whatever they need to help you through whatever you’re going through. I’ve also become great friends with so many of my peers as we go through this together.
  • What are your career goals?
    • As someone going into teaching social studies my biggest goal is to get students engaged in what I teach and help them understand why it’s so important. I want to actually teach students things they don’t always focus on in high school, stuff they need to understand how the world works.
