Research Interests

Mr. Burns' research focuses on the Atlantic world in the 18th and 19th centuries. From a cultural standpoint, he is interested in African, British, German, and Native American communities. Up to this point he has written about the history of war and society, gender, religion, and dissenting views on slavery. 

His M.A. thesis at Ball State University was titled "Honor, Religion, and Reputation: The Worldview of the German Subsidientruppen who fought in the American War of Independence." His published work to date included several articles in the Journal of the Seven Years’ War Association, and a pair of book reviews in the Journal of Military History.
