Research Interests: I am most interested in studying topics that deal with the American South in the 19th and 20th centuries. The focal points of my research are questions pertaining to the Civil War era, Paternalism of the Old South, and politics of the New South. I am also interested in the issue of ‘memory’ and have done two intensive research studies on memory of the Civil War in the American South. I have also done a study examining memory in interwar Great Britain following the First World War. As for experience outside of the classroom, I have been working for three summers with the National Park Service at Gettysburg National Military Park as a seasonal interpretive ranger.
