Research Interests: The Civil War in the Great Lakes basin, the interplay between the Confederate government and the way in which Confederate military leadership prosecuted the war effort, the operations of the Joint Committee for the Conduct of War as related to their approach to the eastern as opposed to the western theatre of the American Civil War, local government within the Confederacy and their role in administration of daily life coinciding with an overall war effort, the way in which government contracts were dealt with during the Civil War era in terms of provisioning the field armies in light of applicable laws of contract, and the importance of the James Monroe presidency as a bridge between the “revolutionary” generation and the “Jacksonian” era.
