Department of History Major Requirements

University and College Requirements

Need 128 hours to be graduated (no more than 42 of these hours may be history credits
Meet general education requirements under either the Liberal Studies Program (prior 2005) or General Education Curriculum (starting 2005 or later)
Writing (W) Course (History 484, formally 494, History capstone course counts for this)

Departmental Requirements

Note: History courses in which you do not earn at least a C will not count toward your major requirements.
12 hours from Introductory courses—all 100 level classes and History 271 and 272
18 hours of advanced courses (those numbered above 200)
At least 9 hours must be 300 or 400-level
9 hours must be concentrated in two of the three following areas: US; Europe; Latin America, Africa or Asia
History 484 (formally 494, senior capstone seminar)
Among your history courses there must be one in African, Asian, or Latin American history
Eberly College minor: Students must complete a formal minor in a field outside of history in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. A minor outside of the College is permissible but requires approval.

Advising and Curriculum

All students are assigned a faculty adviser, be sure to set up an appointment!
Only faculty advisors give out PIN numbers, not departmental staff.
